Frequency Divider (The Classic) 2020

"One of my favorite top five
synth modules." -- DM
We have had numerous requests to reissue the Original Frequency Divider module so here it is!

Input a single waveform and get multiple divided outputs.

  • Single waveform conversion at virtually any input level and divisions with two divider chains
  • Divide by 1, 1.5, 2, and 3 with audio type mixer, selectable low pass filtering, Level control and Mix control with original signal
  • Second divider chain and rotary switch selects divisions 2 through 4096 with Reset Input and LED indicator
  • Square wave outputs up to 15V
  • On board access points for first divider chain and unused buffers for additional outputs
  • On board pots, off board rotary switch and jacks
  • 3 RU high (5.25", 133.4mm) by 3" (76.2mm) wide; allow 5" depth. Compatible with Paia FracRak. Jacks: 1/8" (3.5mm). Panel is black anodized, with white lettering.
  • +/-12 to +/-15 V regulated power @ 15mA
The Frequency Divider is typically used for sub octave enhancement of VCO waveforms and tracks these without glitches. It can also be hooked up to a keyboard audio output with somewhat less stable tracking depending on the complexity and animation of the waveform. Interesting, wild sounding fuzz like events can appear at the end of the note decay and between notes if a second key is played before the first is released. Polyphony is not supported, although some intervals such as octaves process OK. Originally, the FD was described as a "digital fuzz for keyboards" and that might help describe the general sound.

There is no lower input frequency limit, so the control outputs from the second divider can be used as a clock divider or for basic event sequencing applications.

For DIYers there are provisions to add extra outputs as desired. For instance, the rotary switch can be duplicated and wired in parallel as all the second divider outputs are simultaneously available.
